My passion for Africa and international development arose from a love of travel, and in particular, travel to places off the beaten path.  It was in many of those places that I met intelligent, capable and committed people who were working to make a good life for themselves and their families but didn't always have the resources to make that happen.  A is for Africa was created to support the amazing people I met in Africa who have committed their lives to creating a world that is safe, healthy and full of educational and work opportunities.

I have a B.A. in Communications from the University of Pittsburgh and an M.S. in Social Policy and Planning from the London School of Economics.  I spent 4 years living  abroad between Costa Rica, Spain and England, where I studied at university and taught English.   I have over five years health policy analysis experience with the U.S. federal government.  I try to get out of the country as much as possible and have been very fortunate to recently visit both Kenya and Tanzania, where I met the amazing individuals who run SIDAREC and Maasai Wanderings.  I currently live in Washington, D.C. with my dog, Ozzy.

Little did I know when I stood before Mount Kilimanjaro in
Amboseli Park, Kenya on New Year's Day 2006 that I
would spend 7 days of 2007 summiting "The Roof of
   Africa."
